Colonial Treasures Tour – Ten Days Tour

Day 1 – Rio de Janeiro (D)

Rio de Janeiro – Capital of the State of Rio de Janeiro, and also Brazil’s capital from 1763 to 1961, is nestled between the mountains and the sea. Its magnificent shoreline includes charming bays and eautiful beaches, dotted with islands up and down the coast. Flying into Rio is a beautiful sight, whether it be at night or during the day, the visitor quickly finds out why Rio is known as the onderful City. It is also an important center for art and fashion. Arrive Rio de Janeiro – transfer to hotel. Evening – Rio by night with dinner and show – Enjoy a nice dinner in one of Rio’s best barbecue staurant. After dinner, show at Plataforma, a samba house, where guests will enjoy a show with elaborately costumed mulatas, singers and dancers, presenting Brazil’s folklore and capturing the carnival rhythms. Day 2 – Rio de Janeiro (B)

Am tour to Corcovado – After a beautiful scenic drive along Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, we will arrive at the bottom of the Corcovado hill where they will embark on a comfortable train which will climb the
beautiful mountain, where the statue of Christ, the Redeemer is located (2.300ft above sea level). From the top, discover why Rio is known as the Marvelous city! This tour also includes drive along Rio’s famous beaches. This afternoon, Secrets of Old Rio – An interesting walking tour within the colonial part of Rio . The downtown area is where the 400- year-old city started to grow and is nowadays a very busy trade center. Despite this hectic movement, you can discover the most interesting places, combining baroque and modern architecture, little cafes, and pedestrian streets. Overnight Hotel Sofitel Rio de Janeiro.

Day 3 – Rio de Janeiro (B)

Am tour to Petrópolis – City of Petropolis, located in the Mountain region of Rio – 1hour from Rio – Known as the Imperial City – for it was chosen at the time of Brazil’s monarchy to be the summer residence of the Emperor of Brazil – Pedro II. Visit the Imperial Museum, the Crystal Palace and the Sao Pedro de Alcantara Neolithic Cathedral. (on Mondays, most of visitation sites are closed). Overnight Hotel Sofitel Rio de Janeiro.

Day 4 – Rio de Janeiro/ Belo Horizonte (Ouro Preto) (B)

This morning, you will be transfered to Rio airport for flight to Belo Horizonte. Arrival and immediate transfer to the city of Ouro Preto. Ouro Preto was founded in the early 18th century. It was built on rocky ground and declared a national monument in 1933. It is the masterpiece of colonial architecture in Brazil with fountains, churches, ruins and towers shining with colored tiles. Due to its distance from the coast, it is the only town in Brazil to remain as an outstanding artistic and architectural example of that era. Ouro Preto’s baroque architecture can be viewed upon as typically Brazilian. Accomodation and Overnight at Pousada Minas Gerais.

Day 5 – Ouro Preto (B, L)

Am walking tour of Ouro Preto with Lunch – Ouro Preto was founded in the early 18th century. It was built on rocky ground and declared a national monument in 1933. It is the masterpiece of colonial
architecture in Brazil . A visit to Ouro Preto is a step back into history. Lunch Included. Overnight at Pousada Minas Gerais.

Day 6 – Ouro Preto/ Salvador ( B, D)

Am transfer back to Belo Horizonte Airport for flight to Salvador. Salvador – .Capital of the State of Bahia, and was also Brazil’s capital until 1763, is divided in two parts. The “Lower City” is at sea level and contains the old port and the commercial area where visitors will find a complete and varied assortment of Brazilian arts and crafts at the Modelo Market. It is also the best place to witness a demonstration of “capoeira”, a martial art developed by African slaves in Brazil, originally as a form of combat and later as a type of dance and folklore tradition. The “Upper City” can be reached by stone steps, alleyways or the famous Lacerda Elevator. This part of the city contains the old government buildings, the residential districts, museums, churches and much of the newer architecture. Arrive in Salvador, transfer to Hotel. Tonight features “Bahia by night”, an excursion that takes us to Pelourinho to enjoy a dinner at a restaurant and taste some one the typical bahian food and then enjoy the show at Miguel de Santana Theater, a dazzling folklore show of Bahian music, dance and pageantry follows, illustrating all that is unique in the Afro-Brazilian culture. Day 7 – Salvador (B)

Half day Historical tour – We start in the modern suburb of Barra and make our way slowly by to the old historical section of town, the Pelourinho area with the largest and the best preserved complex colonial architecture in the Americas. We visit the church of S. Francisco with its exuberant gold-leafed Baroque interior and the Pelourinho Square, the heart of the old town. This tour shows two distinct aspects of Salvador, the new and the old, concentrating on the early expansion of the city. Overnight Hotel Pestana Convento do Carmo.

Day 8 – Salvador (B, L)

Full day Cachoeira w/lunch – We leave the city behind and drive through the oldest farmland in razil. We visit an experimental cacau plantation,lunch in Cachoeira, a charming colonial town setting on the
banks of the Paraguassu River and later take a walking tour of the town with it’s many wood sculptors ateliers, bustling market (Wed, Fri and Sat) and visit the Sisterhood of the Boa Morte, a sorority which traces it’s origins back to the time of slavery. Overnight Hotel Pestana Convento do Carmo.

Day 9 – Salvador (B)

Day at leisure in Salvador. Overnight Hotel Pestana Convento do Carmo.

Day 10 – Salvador (B)

Transfer to airport for your flight back home.
